Welcome to Penrhynside
The use of the name Penrhynside first appeared in the 1880’s. Before that, groups of dwellings were referred to by name, Pen-y-Cae, Craig Lwyd, Ty Llwyd or more often “Of Penrhyn”. By 1851 the number of dwellings had doubled still mostly occupied by farm workers and some being occupied by stone masons. The years that followed marked the period when Penrhynside developed from a group of scattered cottages, into a village community. A small chapel had been built at the bottom of Fron Deg road and both the Cross Keys and the Penrhyn Arms had opened their doors to customers. The village hasn’t expanded outwards as is usually the case but expanded inwards, so the boundaries have remained constant from its earliest days. In the present times the village has lost all its shops and chapels but still retains the two pubs and the village hall
